“Jan,

I hope you’ve been well since we last spoke and that your summer is off to a good start. I’ve had an exciting development in my professional life. It of course made me think of you, and I wanted to send you a note to update you.

I know when we last spoke, I was in a panic about my job and trying to decide if I should move on and cut my losses, despite being only a few weeks in. It has proved to be a truly awful and toxic place to work, only getting worse as the weeks and months pass.

I decided about 2 months ago that it was time to move on, so I updated my resume, resumed contact with my recruiters and started applying to jobs. I had a lot of good leads through my recruiters and have had many interviews over the last 2 months. I made it to the fourth and final round with a company that I fell in love with early on, and just got a job offer from them on Friday. I happily submitted my notice yesterday.

I’m so excited about the work I will be doing, and the company seems great. The culture sounds amazing, they respect their employees, and it seems we have similar values.

This has been a very long-winded way of saying that without the work you and I did last year, I don’t think I would have been able to pull this off. All the interview prep and skills you taught me came in extremely handy. I finally got to the point where I knew my whole elevator pitch so well it was truly just a relaxed conversation we were having in the interviews. This is the first time I’ve truly hand-picked a job that I feel aligns with my goals and values and it feels so, so good.
